Dental Foundation Training
Dental Foundation Training is replacing the old system of Vocational Training. What was previously just a single year of training is now moving to a two year system which aims to give a broader experience including general practice and also experience in a hospital environment.
In your final year you will start applying to Deaneries to get a training place. A map of all the deaneries is below. By the end of your final year you should hopefully have been accepted by one of the deaneries. You will generally start in August after you qualify. Once you start work, you will be paid a salary by the Deanery and will work as a dentist, but will continue to receive training and support. The dental foundation training is generally split into two separate years. The first year is usually spent in general dental practice. The second year is then usually spent in a hospital environment.
